How do I get started taking online surveys to earn extra money?

Good question, Granny, and I actually have the answer for you. Go to www.surveypolice.com where you will find a list of survey organizations who will, in fact, pay you to take surveys.

Now...pay attention: There are also a lot of "phony-baloney" sites who seem to offer compensation but who are really trying to get you to buy something in exchange for the promised reward. And there are "in-between" sites who run surveys and also pepper you with tricky attempts to get you to sign up with various deals. I call these "offer" sites. Get paid for signing up for an "offer." They are dressed up as surveys -but they aren't, really. And you can, in fact, come out on the better side of those transactions. I have, and I have the deposit in my paypal account to prove it.

So here is a list of what I call "survey sites," meaning real surveys that gather opinion data to help companies decide how to package products or develop some kind of public sentiment on the war in Iraq, global warming, etc. But before I give you the list, I want to give you some advice:

First, set up a separate email account (yahoo is a good place) to handle all the survey invitations and vast accumulation of junk you'll also receive. Its easier to manage this in a separate email account. ALSO, your "user-id" on most all survey sites is your email address, another good reason to have one specially for this. Don't argue -just trust me on this.

NEXT, think up a standard password that you will use to get in to every survey site. Make it different from your yahoo password or any other password. But use the new password for EVERY site. Much easier then keeping a list of different passwords, one for each site.

NOW, be prepared to accept cookies on your PC. These are what allow you to zip right into a survey site and start to work, instead of going through security gate-keepers every time. I have found NO problem on my PC. Legitimate sites have no interest in doing harm to their own panel members.

FINALLY, be prepared to enter the same data about your basic profile over and over again: your age, sex, number of children ...yadda yadda. Also your actual physical address (where they send payments). Also, complete all the profile surveys, which can be extensive in some cases. They need this to make appropriate matches between panelists and survey material.

OK, here's a "safe" list of bona-fide sites:

NFO

Opinion Outpost

Harris Poll Online

Survey Spot

American Consumer Opinion

Your 2 Cents

NPD Online

Greenfield

These'll get you started. You can link into them from the surveycop website above. There are many others listed on that site -and, despite what it says -not all of them are the real McCoy. The one's I've given you ARE.

Be aware, Granny, that if and when you click links in survey cop to go to a site, the surveycop people MIGHT be getting credit for it in case you sign up. There's a lot of money being made on the net by such referrals.

Now let me warn you about a site that should, in my opinion, be regarded with suspicion: wwwthesurveypro.com. At first glance, it looks like they're really trying to play fair and help you out with a free public service. Go ahead -take a looksee. But this site -and many many others that style themselves in the same way - are really "referral" sites, looking to make a few bucks by pipelining people to other sites. Hover your mouse over a link on the left of the page (don't click) and you'll see, in the lower left of your browser, where clicking will take you. At the end of the link is an "=" sign followed by some code. THAT's what sets up a referral spiff for the referring site. Costs you nothing -but it is not really as presented to you, either. There's no poison here that I know of -just be aware that here and at many other sites like it, this is what's going on.

Last word: "payment" may be in several forms, including not at all. Some surveys will pay real money; others let you accumulate points, sort of like green stamps; others give you an entry into a sweepstakes. You'll figure it out over time.

So there you go, and if you don't mind please repost to share your experience. Good luck!
